Patrick Quill was born in County Kerry, Ireland. He entered the novitiate of the Society of Jesus in 1870. Quill taught at five Jesuit colleges over the course of twenty years: St. Peter's College; Boston College; Fordham; Loyola College; Georgetown College; and St. Joseph's College. In 1863, a charter from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts authorized five Jesuits of Maryland Province of the Society of Jesus to incorporate as β€œthe Trustees of the Boston College.” Their South End school became the first chartered college to operate in Boston in September 1864, when twenty-two boys – with an average age of fourteen – enrolled and classes began.
